DIY Artwork

As of late I've been in search of some DIY artwork that can keep me busy while home on maternity leave.   Art is extremely personal. It is not only personal to its creator, but can become personal or meaningful to someone who experiences it.  My objective is simple...... to make something inexpensive but looks like a million bucks.  With that being said here are a couple of my favorite DIY art pieces that someday might make an appearance in my home.

This masterpiece is perfect to fill a large area. What I love about it is that it brings nature into the home and softens any space. Find the tutorial here.

Strawberry Shortcake In A Jar

I was in charge of desert for this Easter holiday.  I knew that I wanted to make something that would be super simple, but would be a WOW factor.  My requirements were fulfilled....taste delicious, looks over-the-top, and easy to whip up..... Strawberry Shortcake In A Jar!

The trick to making this desert is to use store bought angel food cake or pound cake.  The cake is yummy and makes the recipe easy to throw together.  You can use Reddi Whip, but I think homemade whipped cream is what makes the desert!

STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE IN A JAR

1 angel food cake or 1 pound cake, cubed
1 1/2 pints of fresh strawberries, quartered
strawberry glaze, store bought
1 can Reddi Whip
6 whole strawberries, garnish
4-6 half pint mason jars
ribbon

Start by prepping the mason jars by tying the ribbon around the mouth... set aside.
Then begin by washing the strawberries and cutting them into fours.  Mix them with the strawberry glaze... set aside. Cut the angel food cake into cubes... set aside.  Now the fun begins!
It is time to start the assembly line...
First Layer:  cubed angel food cake.
Second Layer:  glazed strawberries.
Third Layer:  Reddi Whip.
Repeat one more time and garnish with the whole strawberry.
Refrigerate until ready to serve.

Enjoy!

DIY Headboard Inspiration. To Be Continued....

This year will mark my very first Mother's Day (I can't believe my little peanut is already 8 weeks old!) and I told my husband that nothing would make this mama more happy than his help making a headboard for our king sized mattress we purchased last summer.   Last fall Kohler and I ventured to SR Harris Fabric Outlet where I found a roll of black linen fabric for a steal of a deal... (Black is a great neutral).  I'm still trying to decide  on what style of frame to build but until then here's some of my favorite inspiration photos.  To be continued.......

Black & white & silver, and a touch of orange = one of my favorite color combos, but the silver can also be switched for gold or brass. :-) ~ETS

A Gallery Wall

Everyone should  have a gallery wall of their own.  A good gallery wall should be able to grow over time without knowing where it ever started.  If you love pattern, color, and art nothing will make an impact like a gallery wall.  Enjoy of few of my favorite inspirations.....
